Orval Fisher, CFP®
Orval Fisher is a CFP® Practitioner, and is a former professional and senior level minister with the Community of Christ offering over twenty-five years of experience in estate and financial planning ministries, legal services, investments and real estate.
Orval was born in Canada and after living in Saskatchewan and Alberta, moved with his family to the United States. He attended college in Iowa and ultimately earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematics from Boise State University. Upon graduation, Orval spent the next 6 years teaching math at local schools in Kuna and Boise, Idaho. Orval recognized his personal call to ministry in 1981 with the Community of Christ, which led him to attend St. Paul’s School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri.
Over the next 26 years, Orval held a number of high level positions within the leadership of the church. His first major assignment sent him to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for 3 years as the Chief Financial Officer for Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Manitoba. His exemplary service soon took him to Denver where he spent the next eleven years as the Bishop for Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nebraska and Kansas.
Orval’s special ability to work powerfully in so many diverse areas with people, and situations, combined with the complexities of his position, next took Orval to the highly visible position in the Presiding Bishopric for the next 6 years with the Community of Christ based in Independence. During this time, Orval supervised numerous personnel in the areas of real estate, houses of worship, estate and financial planning ministries, legal services and investments.
During Orval’s final years of service with the Community of Christ, he accepted the position as President of Central Mission. This is where he worked with approximately 40 congregational pastors in Jackson County, Missouri. As President, he supervised a staff of 25 people. Orval was in charge of overseeing Central Mission’s HUD Housing Project, an RV Park, a youth and family campground (Lake Doniphan) and Recreational Programs in church owned facilities. Central Mission also owned residential real estate and the various congregations of the Mission Center required Real Estate attention as properties were bought and sold, built and repaired in the normal course of church life.
Throughout Orval’s career working for the Community of Christ, he traveled extensively throughout North America and internationally to Germany, The Netherlands, Zambia, Kenya, The Dominican Republic and Russia where he represented the church in a variety of roles. Orval took early retirement in July of 2007 and now considers Missouri his home. He and his wife Susan have been married for 35 years. They have a daughter, who is an attorney. In his spare time, Orval enjoys activities like hiking and snorkeling.
Orval began working with Timberline Investment Company shortly after retiring from the Community of Christ. His diverse experience and in-depth knowledge in financial planning, legal services, investment ministries, and working with people of all ages and backgrounds has proven to be invaluable. We are honored and feel extremely fortunate to have Orval as a member of our team!
